Seduction

" Nobody said i was perfect, my imperfections have yet to fail me, and i love that aspect of me. I'm me for me, so accept me, for me. "

He placed his hand over hers. Across the table, with the fluorescent light shining on her blonde short hair, she looked perfect.
She felt the tingle run up her spine, and her soft smile broke the awkward moment. She felt like she could spend the rest of her life with him. She felt so safe when he was there, just like, as if, nothing else mattered.
He was more than perfect.
Meeting your life partner over lunch, and having fallen in love with him the moment he walked into the room was a big deal. She didn't know how to deal with the fact that she was so drawn to him.
The physical attraction of Calvin and Anna was like oil and water.
After their first date, they had coupled up 3 weeks later. And now. 3 years later.
He was about to propose to her.
She was unsure of what she would say or how she would react. But she knew for sure that he was going to do it tonight.
Throughout the 3 years, they had their plenty fair share of up's and down's. The amount of break up's and set backs in their relationship truly amazed her sometimes.
When he wasn't at home. And out with his so called 'mates'. She wondered how she could live under the same roof as a man who had cheated on her, and lied to her about it a million times. She still love him. She still cared for him. Worst of all. She still slept with him.
He was like bait, she was hooked on him. She hadn't thought about breaking up or leaving him for another guy for quite sometime now.
But she knew, he quietly snuck out to see different ladies, and as much as it upset her, she knew she no longer had a say in his life.
The Calvin she met 3 years ago, is very different from the Calvin he is now.
When they first got together they were obsessed with each other. Now, it was just the mental note that kept reminding them that they were still together, and not two friends sleeping together.
She had envied all their friends who had perfect relationships. And she had the uncountable thoughts of how she could be with another guy right now making her happy. Most of the times. She put on a fake smile, and told everyone all was well. But actually.
She was breaking inside. Bit by bit. She faded.
As she slowly returned to the present. She saw him bemuse at another girl across the room. She was disgusted.
She sipped her wine, and just continued to dream about the perfect life.
'Darling, i'm going to the gents, you can start on your dinner.' whispered Calvin
Anna raised her head from deep though
'Mm, oh okay.' she said over her normal tone.
He paced across the room and the girl he once made eye contact with while pretending to be interested while Anna told him all about her day, had slid off her table and headed towards the restrooms.
Anna saw this, with the corner of her eye. Her main focus was on the exit door. She was upset, that he could do such a thing on a night like this. But it didn't concern her much. All she wanted to do right now was run while she was still ahead.
Beneath the table cloth, her toes wiggeled a rhyme. She was impatiently waiting for the next customer to walk out so she could hide herself within them in case any of the waiters stopped her.
A tear rolled down her cheek as she saw Calvin approach the table. When he was seated. She leaned across the table to blow out the candle. As she drew back, she could smell lady's perfume all over him.
And just below his adam's apple was a lipstick mark. Her eyes welled up, and her cheeks were hot. She was about to burst out into tears. As everybody saw. She ran. She ran out the door and onto the paved street. And coincidentally a taxi stopped and an elderly man stepped out of the car. She got in, and yelled at the man, and gave him the address of Julian's apartment.
Her eyes were stinging, and she was sobbing. The taxi driver constantly looked at her in the rearview mirror. As he was about to say something. She cried even harder.
After the taxi dropped Anna off at the steps that led up to her bestfriend's apartment. It started to pour. She was drenched. She stood there. She carefully slid off her heels. Picked them up, and casually walked up the steps. She rang the bell.
She rang in thrice and no one had answered.
She was worried. And scared. She was afraid of Calvin. But never showed it. She didn't want him to know that he was intimidating. Suddenly the headlight over her head switched on and she saw a figure approach the door. It looked like a female through the glass, and she suddenly remembered that Julian was having one of his fun nights.
Instead of a gorgeous young girl, Julian showed up. Work shirt half undone, boxer shorts, and bedroom slippers. He held a bottle of beer in his right hand, and a bag of lays chips in the other.
He let her in. He hadn't noticed that she was crying. Or at least she thought he hadn't. And if he had, he was clearly not going to do anything about it.
After she had settled herself into his sofa, and cleared the whole place, since it looked & smelled as though a human being had rotted in here and hadn't been disposed off. She was okay with being around him for a little longer. He switched off the TV, he had obviously been watching reruns of the last soccer season, cause that's what she saw. She wondered why he was alone at home on a Sunday evening? One of such where he was supposedly having his fun night.
'What's the matter hon?' he said as he picked up the newspaper.
She starred at him and wondered what had gotten into him.
He looked up from the newspaper.
'Are you not going to tell me then?' he carried on reading as he spoke.
She sobbed and slowly said, 'I walked out on Calvin tonight.'
He immediately dropped the paper and rushed to her side.
She knew the protocol. She fell into his arms as he caught her and hushed her from crying.
She drew in her breath and started to cry. He held her hand, and wiped her tears with his other hand. He never liked to see her like this. He knew her very well, and he could imagine what would have happened before she showed up.
As she calmed down, and the tears stopped rolling, she sat up and faced him. She gave him a weak smile and nodded.
'He was going to propose to me tonight jule. But in the middle of it, there was a girl looking at him and i think he did it with her in the toilet of the restaurant we were at.' she said quietly.
Julian was shocked. He didnt know what to say to her. He hadn't seen this coming.
'Okay babe, this is the time where i start telling you again that Calvin is a low life asshole who doesn't care for you and just wants benefits with you and he doesn't love you. And this is the same time you always turn around and say that he's different and back him up. But, we'll do it differently. I love you and i care for you, and you've been my best friend for 8 years now. You've told me everything and so have i. All i want you to do for the next week is not talk to Calvin. If you listen to me babe, i would really appreciate it. I do all of this only for your sake. If you weren't happy with Calvin, i would want you to break up. I've told you to break up. But you havent. he was out of breath after that short long lecture.
She looked away for a moment, and focused all her energy on a framed picture in his living room hall. It was picture of her, julian, bethany, and luke. She had missed those days with them.
He poked her slightly and she turned around and smiled at him.
'This time, i'm going to listen to you, oh wait, better still i'm going to end it with him.' she smiled with glee as she finished her sentence.
She slid her arms around his waist and fell asleep. He watched her sleep that night.
She woke up with a smile on her face, and he couldn't help but lean down and kiss those tight purse lips of hers.
